Paul Signorelli has more than 20 years of experience working for libraries and nonprofit organizations. As Director of Staff Training (six years) and Volunteer Services (14 years) for the San Francisco Public Library, he has created, implemented, and managed training plans which include:

  • New Staff Orientations
  • Harassment Prevention Trainings
  • Communication/Teamwork/Problem-Solving
  • Health & Safety Trainings
  • Computer Software and Database Trainings
  • Management Training
  • Customer Service Trainings
  • Mentoring/ Professional Development
  • Diversity Training
  • Skills Training (specific to employee job duties)

He has developed curriculum which responds to staff needs; teaches introductory software workshops (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and customer service workshops and has led full-day New Staff Orientation sessions with a variety of presenters; publicized workshops through a quarterly printed catalog, e-mail messages to all staff, and intranet listings which sometimes include lesson plans; and works with colleagues and administrators to create and manage a training budget capable of sustaining the overall program.

He has also been active in collaborations with a variety of organizations and committees:

Urban Libraries Council
Developing and managing training component of IMLS/ULC Scholar program for San Francisco Public Library; also was a presenter on an IMLS/ULC Scholar program audioconference (2006).

Infopeople (California-based training organization for libraries)
Member of Infopeople Master Trainers group since its inception in 2002.

Library Staff Development Committee of the Greater Bay Area
Member of this library training consortium which organizes daylong workshops and conferences to meet unmet training needs for staff of Libraries throughout the San Francisco Bay Area; helped plan “Future of Libraries” conferences held at San Francisco Public Library and serves as co-chair of this event (2006 and 2007). 

SFPL Staff Development Committee
Member of this San Francisco Public Library staff committee which helps expand and fine-tune the Library’s Staff Training program (2001-2007).

SFPL Educational Opportunities Committee
Member of this San Francisco Public Library staff committee which disburses Friends funds to reimburse staff for training workshops not otherwise paid for through SFPL Training (2001-2007).
