Paul Signorelli has more than 20 years of experience working with volunteers in libraries and nonprofit organizations. As Director of Volunteer Services for the San Francisco Public Library, he created, implemented, and had managed the Library’s volunteer program which recruits, trains, and places volunteers in positions including, but not limited to:

  • Clerical/Office Assistance
  • Computer Assistance for Adults and Children
  • Database Entry
  • Delivering Library Materials to the Homebound
  • Docents Leading Tours of San Francisco’s Main Library
  • Exhibition Installations
  • General Assistance Where Needed
  • Greeters
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Homework Assistance for Children
  • Hospitality Event Assistance
  • Shelving Books/Shelf-Reading

He has developed:

  • A volunteer handbook and forms (applications, tracking sheets, time sheets, and guidelines for working with children) needed to support a program which has attracted thousands of volunteers to libraries and other nonprofit organizations;
  • The docent-training manual which was used to train more than 70 volunteers who led hundreds of tours of the Main Library in San Francisco when it opened in 1996. Job descriptions for dozen of different positions filled by volunteers;
  • Orientation and training sessions for volunteers working in a variety of organizations; and
  • He has also been active in collaborations with a variety of organizations and committees to share resources and experiences common to those working with volunteers.
